‘Round here

Believe it or not, there is no snow on my front lawn. For now. It’s a beautiful 60 degrees today, cloudy, but nice. Tomorrow, on the other hand, 36 with snow/sleet/rain. Bluh.

Just thought I’d let you know what’s up ’round here.

My oldest daughter, Celia, turned 16. Her sisters made a fabulous cake for her. It was yellow and chocolate cake with a chocolate/nutella icing. It was yummy. They used sugar sheets to make the dots, stripes, bow tie and tardis. Celia’s a Dr. Who fan. I don’t understand it all, but her sisters knew just what to make. Not bad for an 11 & a 12 year old.

The high school’s winter formal just happened to be on Celia’s birthday. What a fun way to spend your special day. Hubs and I chaperoned. We’ve never done that before. It was fun. They’re all good kids so we didn’t have to break anything up. We just chatted and played cards with the dean of students. See the scaffolding in the background, that’s the set for the play and they’re still working on the taller panels. Not the most romantic or charming addition to the dance, but no one seemed to mind.

I alter costumes for my girls’ ballet that happens at the end of May. The costumes have started rolling in and they’re are so lovely to look at. I probably should start touching them too. Better to get ahead than swamped later.

I’m participating in my first-ever quilt-along. It’s hosted by Amanda Castor at Material Girl Quilts. She just released week 3 on Friday. So, really, it’s not too late to jump in. I’m super excited about it.

Most recently, I’ve written a new pattern. It’s being tested RIGHT NOW! Yay! I’m hoping to have it published and live by Friday, March 21st.

I’m also participating in a blog tour that’s going on this month. I’ll let you know more about that in a day or two. That about wraps it up. Have a good ole day.

A Summer in Review, Instagram Style.

Hello friends,

It really has been a whole summer since I wrote anything here. It’s no secret that blogging is not my favorite, but I probably should write more than once a quarter.

A lot has happened since my last post. I thought I would write the update with lots of pictures and as few words as possible. I like pictures better anyway. I’ll let Instagram tell the story.

The beginning of the summer is always marked by the completion of our ballet year. Three of my girls danced in an original, full length ballet called The Princesses  Wish. They were so beautiful and did an amazing job.

We updated the girls’ bathroom. It was so gross before.

korah hill

Hubs and I went to Ethiopia!! I can’t even express the beauty of the land and the people. So many of them have nothing and are much more content than we Americans are. We visited a village called Korah that is next to a trash dump. The people live in shacks made of sheet metal and some were mud huts. They ‘forage’ at the dump for food. There is much disease in this village. If you’d like to know more about Korah, you can visit this website. We also visited an orphanage and a hospital. There is so much need. I can’t begin to describe it.

We came back home just in time to celebrate the 4th of July with my family.

boxes  sold

We put our house on the market and started packing. We sold it in a little less than two weeks.

I broke up with Candy Crush. We were just spending too much time together. There was packing and cleaning to do.

first day

My girls all started school, two of which are in high school.

Hubs turned 40. Isn’t he a cute 40?

I  got back together with Candy Crush. It makes me think of the Lady Antebellum song, Need You Now. I lost all control.

We moved. Last Saturday. We are living in chaos. It’ll all settle down over the next couple of weeks, right?

So there you have it. An IG summer.  You can find me on Instagram here.

I hope you all have a fantastic day. I’m off to unpack. More.

Review of the eClutch…keep reading!

Hey all! I’m shouting out to you today. I’m promoting. I’m linking up a review for you to check out. It’s about one of my patterns. I know you’re going to be tempted to click the links right now. That’s what I would do. However, I think it would be in your best interest to read to the bottom of this post first. Wink, wink.

crafty blog stalker eclutch

Katie, over at The Crafty Blog Stalker wrote a lovely review of Schoolhouse Patterns’ eClutch sewing pattern for iPad & iPad Mini/Kindle on her blog. Check out her review here. The picture above is of Katie’s case. If you look closely at her picture, you’ll notice that she added a button and elastic loop for her closure. I love it. The pattern includes instructions for a velcro closure, but you could definitely customize yours like Katie did.

As Katie mentioned in her post, this is a very quick sew. Heck, you could start now and have one finished by lunch. Maybe I’ll make another one for my iPad Mini. Maybe. I really should spend my morning writing a new Free Pattern Friday post for you. It’s been a while.

I’m pretty sure you could score this pattern in my Etsy shop. OR, you could continue reading this post like I told you to in the first place. I’m feeling a little bossy today. My kids have friends over and it wouldn’t be appropriate to boss them around. I guess I’ll take it out on you.

So, here’s what I’m telling you to do.

  • First – go to Katie’s blog. (Not yet. Read the rest first!)
  • Second – read her post and leave a comment for her. Be nice.
  • Third – come back here and leave a comment telling me that you left a comment on her post.
  • Then, on Monday morning, I’ll randomly pick one of you to receive a complimentary copy of the eClutch sewing pattern.

By the way, I haven’t told Katie about this giveaway. I just decided to do it. I guess I better give her a heads up, huh?
